MCESD Kicks Off Pre-Budget 2026 Consultations
The MCESD organised its annual pre-Budget meeting, during which it presented 58 proposals to the Minister for Finance, Clyde Caruana.
These proposals were compiled with the involvement of economist Dr Gordon Cordina, who led individual meetings with all members of the MCESD Council: unions, employers’ organisations, the Civil Society Committee, and the Gozo Regional Committee. This process resulted in the formation of the MCESD’s official position on the pre-budget proposals.
Dr Cordina highlighted that the aim of social dialogue in Malta is to advise the government on measures that benefit the entire country. He explained that, as is done every year, the MCESD coordinated the ideas of its members and developed 58 proposals covering economic performance, productivity growth, population issues, social services, and the Gozo region. These proposals reflect a broad consensus and will be presented to the government to inform decisions for the 2026 Budget.
The MCESD Chairperson, Perit David Xuereb, explained that these proposals represent the collective priorities and aspirations of the social partners, with the aim of strengthening economic resilience, promoting social inclusion, and ensuring sustainable development through constructive dialogue and collaboration.
