MCESD Discusses Key Topics Presented by the MCCAA
The Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority (MCCAA) held its first official meeting with the MCESD, marking an important step in strengthening collaboration and dialogue with social partners.

During the meeting, MCCAA Chairperson Ms Carmen Ciantar, together with the four Directors General, gave an overview of the Authority’s broad responsibilities in the areas of consumer protection, competition, standards, and technical regulations.

Council members engaged in an open discussion on how to enhance collaboration between both entities and ensure that social partners remain updated on the MCCAA’s ongoing work and initiatives.
Social partners raised several points of interest and sought clarifications on topics such as product safety, online purchases from outside the European Union, the use of CE-marked products, public information campaigns, financial services, eco-labelling, and fair competition.

Ms Ciantar noted that this meeting forms part of the MCCAA’s ongoing outreach efforts to engage directly with stakeholders. “It is an important opportunity to listen to the perspectives and suggestions of our social and economic partners,” she said, adding that the Authority looks forward to continuing this constructive dialogue with the MCESD in the future.
Council members agreed that similar meetings should be held regularly to ensure open communication and sustained cooperation between the MCCAA and social partners.
