MCESD Social Partners Gained Insights and Explored Research Labs at the University of Malta’s Institute for Sustainable Energy.

The visit by the MCESD Social Partners to the University of Malta’s Institute for Sustainable Energy at Marsaxlokk Research Centre underscores the crucial role of collaboration between academia, research, and social partners in advancing sustainable energy solutions. This visit, organised following the MCESD Council Meeting held last January at the University of Malta, emphasised the significance of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) considerations and provided Social Partners with the latest research and innovation insights in Malta.

Facilitated by the University of Malta Research Innovation and Development Trust (RIDT), this on-site visit explained Malta’s journey in bolstering investment in research and development on a national level.

During the visit, the Social Partners, led by MCESD Chairperson Perit David Xuereb and accompanied by the Parliamentary Secretary for Social Dialogue, Hon. Andy Ellul, were warmly greeted and briefed by esteemed academics Dr. Ryan Bugeja and Dr. Ing. Marija Demicoli, alongside the Institute’s Director, Prof. Luciano Mule Stagno. This opportunity provided stakeholders with firsthand access to the Institute’s state-of-the-art facilities and invaluable insights into cutting-edge, albeit tangible, research in sustainable energy.

The showcased advanced research laboratories, fully equipped classrooms, and extensive outdoor grounds dedicated to sustainable energy experiments underscore the Institute’s commitment to drive innovation in this critical field that is of real national interest. By providing Social Partners with a comprehensive understanding of research initiatives and technological advancements, this visit highlights the importance of appreciating and supporting research programmes aimed at advancing Malta’s economic and social development.
