National Productivity Reports
The National Productivity Board (NPB) was established in line with Legal Notice 275 of 2019, under the Malta Council for Economic and Social Development Act (CAP. 431). The Malta Council for Economic and Social Development (MCESD) is an advisory body that provides opinions and recommendations to the Government of Malta on matters of economic and social importance. The NPB operates under the remit of the MCESD and is responsible for assessing and analysing productivity and competitiveness in Malta.
The Board was officially set up in 2019 and is composed of 11 members, including the Chairperson. The Chairperson of the MCESD serves ex officio as the Chairperson of the NPB. The other 10 members include:

One senior official nominated by the Minister for Finance

One member nominated by the Governor of the Central Bank of Malta

Four members nominated by workers’ organisations represented in the Council

Four members nominated by constituted bodies representing national employers’ organisations within the Council
The National Productivity Board is also responsible for preparing the Annual National Productivity Report.
Since its establishment, the Board has fulfilled the objectives of the EU Council Recommendation on National Productivity Boards by providing analysis and insights on productivity and competitiveness developments in Malta and Gozo.
