Post-Covid stimulus package: PM Abela: 'A great result for Malta'

Deal described as ‘groundbreaking’

EU leaders this morning approved a groundbreaking stimulus package to combat the economic aftershocks of the COVID-19 pandemic. Reacting to this landmark package, Prime Minister Robert Abela said it was a great result for Malta.

The 750-billion-euro deal was sealed this morning after negotiations started on Friday. An agreement on the EU’s seven-year budget was also agreed to.

The European Commission said that today we’ve taken a historic step, we all can be proud of after 4 long days and nights of talks.

More than 50% of the overall long term EU Budget (a total of 1.8 trillion euro) will support modern policies. But other important steps remain: we now need to gain the support of the European Parliament.
