MCESD Highlights National Priorities in Meeting with EU Delegation.

The social partners engaged in important discussions with a delegation from the European Commission on national and European priorities.

A key focus was the appointment of an MCESD taskforce to contribute to Malta’s Vision 2050, highlighting the importance of stakeholder consultation and collective action.

MCESD Chairperson, Perit David Xuereb underscored the pivotal role of social dialogue in driving Malta’s recovery and development. “Social dialogue is essential in shaping Malta’s economic and social future around the wellbeing of its people, ensuring our efforts align with national and EU goals,” he stated.

Social partners emphasised the need for open, transparent, and impact-driven discussions to address challenges such as education reform, sustainability, and labour market development. They highlighted the importance of investments in skills training, gender equality, and mechanisms that evaluate the outcomes of dialogue, ensuring accountability and measurable progress. They also raised subject matters such as traffic, the building industry, and reducing Malta’s carbon footprint as priorities, along with calls for strategic resource management and sustainable planning.

In the second part of the meeting, discussions focused on fostering collective productivity and strengthening Malta’s role in Europe. A delegation from the EESC Employers’ Group, led by President Stefano Mallia, centred around the urgency of restoring competitiveness in Europe.

“Investment alone won’t drive Europe forward; structural reforms are essential,” said Stefano Mallia. “We must reduce regulatory burdens, deepen the Single Market, and lower energy costs. Now is the time to move from declarations to swift actions that create a business-friendly environment for European companies to innovate, grow, and lead.”

The meeting underscored MCESD’s commitment to foster meaningful dialogue and collaboration, ensuring Malta’s priorities and actions contribute to European progress.
