MCESD Focuses on Malta Vision 2050
The MCESD Council and its Task Force convened to discuss Malta Vision 2050 and an accompanying national strategy focused on shaping the nation’s economic, social, and environmental future.
The meeting brought together the Minister for Economy, Enterprise, and Strategic Projects (delegated by the Cabinet of Ministers led by OPM), the Parliamentary Secretary for Social Dialogue, MCESD task force members, Social Partners, and technical consultants for both MCESD and OPM.
During the session, the government presented its initial groundwork, and social partners provided their feedback. Discussions centred on the Vision’s methodology and key priorities, including strengthening the economy, enhancing education, improving healthcare and transport, ensuring food and energy security, and fostering sustainability. The unique challenges facing Gozo and the importance of inclusivity and the importance of the process being apolitical were also emphasised.
MCESD Chairperson Perit David Xuereb described the initiative as a “bold and detailed action that is fundamental in shaping Malta’s future,” noting the extensive work still to come.
Together, we are laying the foundations for a sustainable, innovative, and prosperous future, ensuring that Malta’s long-term vision aligns with the aspirations of our nation. Our goal is a holistic vision that addresses challenges, creates opportunities, and enhances the quality of life for all.” said Minister Silvio Schembri.
The Parliamentary Secretary, Dr. Andy Ellul, emphasised the vision’s importance in reflecting the aspirations of all Maltese people, adding that it must embody the courage and perseverance that have defined Malta’s history and will shape its future.
This meeting marked a crucial step in the process that will shape Malta Vision 2050, reinforcing a collective and collaborative commitment to reassure a consistent effort towards a sustainable, competitive, inclusive, and prosperous future for the wellbeing of all.
